There is a family. Two parents. Four kids.
They live in a house.
Without a white picket fence.
Without a dog.
Without happiness.
Without laughter.
The youngest girl is paralyzed.
One fifteen year old boy squares the blame on his shoulders.
It is not his fault.
A drunken Mother.
A wasted Father.
They throw the eldest a pair of keys.
He has to drive.
He has to get them all home safely.
His brother and his two sisters.
He is responsible for all their lives.
It should not have to be this way.
They should have been sober
They should not have endangered the children's lives.
He should not have to be this strong.
A little girl screams.
Blood everywhere.
Glass.
Pain.
Blackness.
Sirens.
Hospital lights
A little girl is paralyzed from the waist down.
Her older brother blames himself.
He shouldn't have to
Shoulder
this Responsibility.
So Cool! I am really proud of all your hard work!
ReplyDeletecool you made it a poem :)
ReplyDeleteWow what an intense poem Janea! I really feel like I can picture this in a courtroom, being there in person! This is good work! How many cases have you worked on so far? Whats the average time of working on one? I feel like your capturing the deep pain of the victim(s) in this situation of the poem!
